Here at C.I.S.A we offer small business group health insurance plans for qualifying small businesses. In order to qualify for a small business group plan your business must meet all of the following criteria.

  • Your small business must employ 1 to 100 employees and must have at least one full time employee.
  • The full time employee must be working an average of 30 hours per week or at least 130 hours of service for the calendar month.
  • your business must employ at least one “Common law employee” defined by the IRS as anyone who performs services for an employer if the employer can control what will be done and how it will be done.
  • A common law employee does not include spouses within the business, persons who are owners, part owners or have any controlling interests in the company.

Aetna is a national health insurance company offering policies in all 50 states. Here in California Aetna offers coverage to employers in small and large group markers. Aetna offers full, medium and narrow network HMO networks, this degree of flexibility is unusual in California.

Anthem Blue Cross of California is the second largest health insurer in the United States, Anthem offers a variety of plans such as HMO, PPO, EPO, Health Savings Account (H.S.A.) for small groups, large groups, and seniors. Anthem PPO networks are some of the most extensive in California may be part of the reason why they have the more PPO members than any other carrier in California.

Blue Shield of California is a not-for-profit corporation that operates exclusively in California. It is the third largest health plan in California offering individual, small and large group markets as well as Medicare supplement and Medicare advantage plans. Blue Shield small group plans are competitively priced and offers full or narrow network options.

Kaiser is California’s largest health plan it is a not for profit corporation that offered coverage in the individual, small and large group markets. Kaiser operates on a “staff model” HMO where the doctors hospitals and insurance company is combined into one entity. Kaiser’s primary focus is to offer a “comprehensive health care delivery system” through their providers.

Health Net has a substantial segment of California’s Health Insurance market and in 2015 was acquired by Centene. Health Net offers individual, small and large group health insurance through HMO and PPO products. Health Net’s parent company Centene is a medicare-focused company and Health Net’s Medicare business would only benefit from the acquisition. Health Net’s individual and group business will continue unchanged after the acquisition.

United Health Care(UHC) is the nation’s largest medical insurance company and in California offers small and large group medical insurance plans but does not offer any individual plans. UHC allows small employer groups to offer HMO, PPO and HSA Plans with full, medium and narrow provider networks. UHC offers coverage in all 50 states and is a good fit for an employer with employees who reside in different states.
